Author- Laura Thalassa My Rating- 4 STARS Synopsis- Callypso Lillis is a siren with a very big problem, one that stretches up her arm and far into her past. For the last seven years she’s been collecting a bracelet of black beads up her wrist, magical IOUs for favors she’s received. Only death or repayment will fulfill the obligations. Only then will the beads disappear. Everyone knows that if you need a favor, you go to the Bargainer to make it happen. He’s a man who can get you anything you want... at a price. And everyone knows that sooner or later he always collects. But for one of his clients, he’s never asked for repayment. Not until now. When Callie finds the fae king of the night in her room, a grin on his lips and a twinkle in his eye, she knows things are about to change. At first it’s just a chaste kiss—a single bead’s worth—and a promise for more. |
If the Bargainer has any hope to save his people, he’ll need the help of the siren he spurned long ago. Only, his foe has a taste for exotic creatures, and Callie just happens to be one.
My Review- This was a very enjoyable book with a good story. I enjoyed The Bargainer, who we come to know as Desmond the Fae King of Night and Chaos. He was, at the core a good man, but frightening in his wrath and mischievous in his side job as one who deals in secrets and favours which always must be repaid as he sees fit or they die.
Callie is a Siren, a creature who can compel and command with her voice should she wish it, though it does not work again Fae, only those with human blood. She calls upon the Bargainer to cover up a murder she committed as a teen and racked herself many more favours through the following months as she becomes besotted with the handsome King. For 7 long years, he has never once called in any of the favours she owes, until he needs her help in his kingdom to find an enemy stealing female warriors.
A good plot, though at times I felt something was missing and Callie, though a brave girl and sometimes kickass siren, could be a little dumb and slow putting the evidence together. Though the romance and relationship between her and Desmond kept me reading more than anything. I wasn't overly connected to anything else happening and the Eli subplot felt more like a space filler. However, I really enjoyed it and look forward to book 2 in hopes of seeing Callie reveal more siren powers.
Has some erotic themes and sexy love scenes.
