My Rating- 5 STARS
Synopsis- Fifteen-year-old Nora Salvatore thinks wizards, fairies, dragons, and demons are the stuff of myth, but she is wrong. Nora is thrown head first into a life of magic and chaos after learning of a mysterious legend surrounding her birth and the magical powers she is supposed to possess. When an army of demons from a parallel world plans the eradication of mankind, only she can close the portals and keep the demons at bay. Can she learn to harness her new-found powers in time to stop them?
My Review- Nora Salvatore believes she is a regular
child who has found herself in the fostering system since the death of her mother and a father who is not in the picture. Unfortunately for her, with every family she is placed with, unexplained things keep happening. Rooms are smashed up when she is no where nearby yet she is blamed for it. She bounces from family to family until her case worker finally brings her to Jocelyn Blancgard and her husband, Kasen. We soon come to realise not all is normal and that they are actually magical beings belonging to a world called Mythos and they believe that Nora is the long awaited Daughter of Mythos, one with the power to close the portals that demons and other creatures use to come to Earth.
This book is jam-packed full of adventure, magic, mythical creatures and lore. Its easy reading, light on angst and full of humourous moments between Nora and Zane, a boy who vows to protect her with his life. He is tortured by his past but incredibly strong and kind and will do anything for Nora, even die for her. Triston is a breath of fresh air and relieves the tension when the story becomes action packed!
The characters are well written and develop over time, the light romance thats runs through the book is heartfelt and more a 'true' depiction of first love during the early teen stage. There was no insta-love, which was fantastic. I love how Zane and Nora grow to like each other.
This was a incredible debut novel and I will look forward to reading more by Melissa Blake!
