My Rating- 4 STARS
Synopsis- Ari chose to be a Guild Hunter. She wanted to hunt dangerous Jinn and destroy them before they could harm innocent people. But now that Ari is a member of The Guild, she finds herself in the impossible position of hunting her ex-best
friend – human-turned-dangerous sorcerer, Charlie Creagh. As Ari struggles to come to terms with her duty, an ancient Jinn and his companion want revenge on her for using the command of the Seal against them; the White King refuses to give up on his quest to resurrect Lilif, and Asmodeus isn’t done toying with
her.
When Ari can take no more, rushing to the Sultan Azazil’s side to demand of him the favor he owes her, the events she sets in motion will not only alter everyone’s lives, it will kindle a darkness that will shake the realms to their very core.
My Review- Prior to reading the last installment of Samantha Young's Fire Spirits series, I re-read the first books. It reminded me just how fantastic the books are; the feelings, the romance and the fantasy
driven plot. The whole series is extremely well written and planned out with twists and turns, ups and downs, love and action in perfect amounts. The reader can never become desensitised, there is just enough of everything. Samantha Young has weaved a gripping tale from Smokeless Fire to Darkness, Kindled full of astounding beauty, heartache and love. The depth of the characters pulls the reader in and holds them to the very last word of the last novel, and even then I am begging for another book!! I love Ari amd Jai that much!
While Darkness, Kindled is not my favourite book in the entire series (Smokeless Fire for me) it was a great read. It had just enough angst to Ari and Jai's relationship to keep it interesting, but not so much that I rolled my eyes. They were believeable as a couple! There is a deep truth to their love and despite all the paranormal goings on around them they deal with 'first love' issues; uncertainty, trust, trying not to hurt each other, making mistakes. It was great watching Jai transform from powerful, stoic guardian to loved up, jealous passionate lover!
Ari is one of my favourite protagonists. She might come across as a childish teenager every so often(who doesnt?) but she is strong, knows her own mind and will stop at nothing to protect those she loves, even if it means risking her own life. In Darkness, Kindled she becomes powerful, confident and is passionate with wit and attitude. The best thing about Ari and what Samantha Young has done with her character, is that falling in love did not make her some weak willed, whining child. She refuses to let Jai boss her around or make choices for her. They are argumentative, hot headed and above all else they 'balance' each other.
Each and every character is important from Trey to Charlie to Fallon and the others. They all add to the Plot, they all have something to offer and some issue to solve. They make the story even more
fun. The plot in this series is deep, fun and twisted.
I will miss these characters deeply. I think this series will stay in my mind for a very long time and it is one I will re-read often. Darkness, Kindled was a great, perfect, traumatic and emotion filled finale to a series. If they ever get made in to films, I will love them too.
Fantastic Job!!! I want MORE!!!
