Series- The Folk of the Air #1
Genre- Young Adult, Fantasy
Synopsis- Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.
My Review- What a beautifully stunning book. I can't be more excited for the next book in the series. Wow, what a cliffhanger. So messy and so very very delightful! But I have to wait a year for it.
I love Jude, strong and brave and witty and full of attitude. A strategist, clever and full of surprises and secrets. Almost like a Fae herself! She is neither perfectly good but isn't evil either. She is what she has to be to move the pieces on her game board the way she needs them to gain power, to gain a title above 'dirty mortal'. She wants respect and damn she will go to extreme lengths to earn it! The whole book is a riddle the reader can't help but love working through.
Cardan, the spoilt Prince brat with no care for responsibility and loves to torment those lesser than him on a daily basis. I enjoyed hating him, I like liking him but I am pretty sure a part of me is going to love him in the future. He treats our heroine awfully, but she has challenged him on every page. They are a great match even if they don't see it yet.
The plans for the crown and rulership are the long game. Anything can happen. No one trusts anyone. I barely trust Jude, our main character! She is full of surprises.
But one thing I know for sure. No matter what happens to her or Cardan or her pretty weak twin sister, I know I am going to freaking love this series.
